Rizin 21: Mikuru Asakura Triumphs in Main Event

Rizin 21, a mixed martial arts event, took place on Saturday, February 22, 2020, at the Hamamatsu Arena in Hamamatsu, Japan. The event was a thrilling spectacle, featuring 17 fights that included a mix of MMA, kickboxing, and grappling bouts.

The main event of the evening was a 150-pound catchweight bout between Japan’s Mikuru Asakura and Daniel Salas. Asakura, a top prospect in the MMA world, was the star of the show. He continued his push to stardom with a technical knockout (TKO) of Daniel Salas. Asakura was expected to defeat Salas, but the method in which he sealed the deal — set up via a head kick — proved that the Japanese fighter is a force to be reckoned with.

After the bout, an apparent match with Kotetsu Boku, a former ONE Championship lightweight champ, was lined up. This victory marked Asakura’s eighth consecutive win, further solidifying his status as a rising star in the MMA world.

Also on the card, DEEP and RIZIN regular Roque Martinez finished off another ONE alum, Hideki Sekine, at heavyweight — sealing the deal with soccer kicks. Other notable victors on the Rizin 21 card included Victor Henry, Marcos Souza, and Naoki Inoue.

The event was streamed live on FITE TV PPV, offering fans around the globe the opportunity to witness the action-packed bouts. RIZIN 21 offered some pleasant surprises for fight fans around the globe. The Japanese MMA outfit, known for cards that can best be described as excruciatingly long, managed to quicken the pace in Hamamatsu, with just one intermission, and a short one at that.

Rizin 21 was a testament to the growing popularity and competitiveness of MMA in Japan. The event showcased a mix of established fighters and rising stars, providing a night of thrilling action for fans. With fighters like Mikuru Asakura continuing to make their mark, the future of MMA in Japan looks brighter than ever.
