Born in Tanzania on September 22, 1982, Kimweri’s passion for boxing ignited at a young age, inspired by his brothers who were also boxers. At the tender age of twelve, he began his training, honing his skills and nurturing his ambition to become a professional boxer.

Kimweri’s journey took an unexpected turn when he defected from Tanzania during the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia. His decision was driven by a burning desire to pursue his boxing career on a global stage, a dream that seemed unattainable in his home country. With unwavering determination, he sought asylum in Australia, embarking on a new chapter in his life.

Despite the challenges of starting anew in a foreign land, Kimweri’s talent and dedication propelled him forward. He quickly made a name for himself in the Australian boxing circuit, competing in the light-flyweight and flyweight divisions. His impressive performances earned him several regional titles, solidifying his reputation as a formidable force in the ring.

One of Kimweri’s most significant achievements came in April 2016 when he defeated Randy Petalcorin by split decision to claim the WBC Silver flyweight title. This victory not only showcased his skills but also opened the door to a coveted opportunity – a shot at the WBC world title.

Undeterred by the challenges that lay ahead, Kimweri made the bold decision to drop down to the strawweight division, setting his sights on the WBC world champion, Wanheng Menayothin. In June 2017, he stepped into the ring to challenge the undefeated Thai boxer, but despite his valiant efforts, he fell short, losing by unanimous decision.

Kimweri’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the pursuit of one’s dreams, regardless of the obstacles that may arise. His story transcends the boundaries of the boxing ring, inspiring others to chase their passions with unwavering determination and resilience.
