Richard “Shrimpy” Clarke was born on April 20, 1963, in Kingston, Jamaica. He grew up in the Studley Park Road area of the city and attended Chetolah Park Primary, Kingston Secondary School, and Eastern Academy. From a young age, Clarke showed a keen interest in boxing, and his natural talent and dedication to the sport would eventually propel him to great heights.

Professional Career Highlights

Clarke’s professional boxing career spanned the 1980s and 1990s, during which he competed in the fly and super flyweight divisions. He achieved remarkable success, winning the World Boxing Council (WBC) Continental Americas flyweight title, the WBC International light flyweight title, and the British Commonwealth flyweight title.

One of the standout moments in Clarke’s career was his challenge for the WBC flyweight title against Sot Chitalada. Although he fell short in that bout, his determination and skill earned him respect and admiration from fans and fellow boxers alike.

In addition to his coaching duties, Clarke works as a Sports Officer at the Institute of Sports (INSports) located at Kingston’s National Arena, further contributing to the development of sports in his home country.
